Boat Lift Capacity: Why Loaded Weight Matters
Learn what belongs in a realistic boat weight estimate before selecting lift equipment.

Published dry weight may leave out fuel, water, batteries, optional engines, electronics, anchors, safety equipment, and personal gear. A boat that appears comfortably below a lift rating on paper can be much closer to the limit when ready for a normal day on the water.
Build a realistic operating estimate
Begin with the manufacturer’s applicable base weight, then add the installed engine configuration, full fuel, water, batteries, accessories, and the gear normally stored aboard. Do not rely on a single generic number when the model was sold with multiple engine or layout options.
Capacity affects more than the controller
The lift structure, tanks or cables, bunks, motors, and controls work as one system. Controller selection does not increase the engineered capacity of the underlying lift. Have the full lift reviewed whenever the boat, engine package, or normal operating load changes materially.
Use the lift details to make the final decision
