Winterizing a Boat Lift Controller
A seasonal checklist for freshwater lifts in freezing climates.

Winterization varies by lift design, water level, dock type, and local ice conditions. Use the manual for the complete system and do not assume a controller-only procedure protects tanks, hoses, cables, bunks, or structural components.
Inspect power and enclosure condition
Before the off-season, examine the enclosure, seals, mounting points, wiring entries, remote controls, and visible hardware. Address water intrusion, loose fittings, damaged cords, or corrosion through qualified service rather than leaving a known defect for spring.
Make spring startup deliberate
At recommissioning, inspect before energizing. Confirm the lift area is clear, reconnect only as directed, and test operation without people aboard. Watch for unusual sounds, delayed response, leaks, uneven movement, or controls that do not behave as expected.
Use the lift details to make the final decision
Every installation is different. Before ordering or troubleshooting a controller, document the boat’s loaded weight, lift type, rated capacity, tank count, valve configuration, motor setup, and current control equipment. Guardian can review that information and recommend the appropriate next step.
